We live in an era where social platforms have grown rapidly and have become a part of our lives, but at the same time our data stored on the internet is a potential asset to strangers. Given how much data we share every day, the need to protect comes hand in hand.

But with technologies providing paper thin security it won’t be a hard nut to crack for the cyber criminals, who strip away the little privacy which the internet has left.

What we upload on these platforms, is it really with just ourselves and the internet? Are you being watched? Is privacy really a myth?. You might think of free antiviruses and vpn connections would be the answer. But apparently, that’s not true.As long as you have your data in safe hands, be precautious before being late! These are some of the myths we all believe in, that need debunking.

- YOU NEED TO BE RICH TO BE HACKED

Don’t be relieved expecting hackers to target only the VIP’s and rich people as these hackers prefer taking advantage of thousands of users at once to implement DDOS attacks and hold websites.

- INCOGNITO MODE: THE BEST WAY TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS?

Initially, these browsers have the ability to keep the browser from tracking your activities and prevent cookies but its a very paper thin security to remain anonymous and websites can still track your ip address.

-ALL VPNS ARE Equally SAFE

as good as it sounds, free VPN services need to be ignored. Remember that if a valuable service is provided for free by a for-profit company, then they have to have a profit from you. Hence all the user’s data is monitored. So free VPNs won’t do. Paid VPNs, however, will do the job if they do not belong to the 14 eyes(list of 14 countries that have surveillance on you’re data).

-VIRTUAL PRIVACY GUARANTEE COMES WITH AN ANTIVIRUS

Viruses are very hard to detect. Powerful antiviruses could do the prevention but these Antivirus companies need to keep it updated with new virus threats but it’s not possible to predict the upcoming ones. Hence these antivirus software are 1 step behind in the game.

But in the end, every system has a flaw and if you have followed all the rules then the only vulnerability in your data is you keep it safe!
